PAST
The Flavio Behring JiuJitsu Family is a direct reflection of Jiu-Jitsu’s own history, its evolution and proudly, its future. Its humble beginnings started in 1947 when a young Flavio Behring began his apprenticeship in the “gentle art” at the prestigious hands of the Great Grand Master Helio Gracie and Grand Master Joao Alberto Barreto.

During the era best described as the Golden Age of Jiu Jitsu, the 1950’s, Grand Master Flavio Behring was exposed to the extremely technical teachings of the Gracie Family. An insider to what has been described as “the laboratory” of the Gracie Academy, where he learned the tradition, characteristics and structure of the now worldwide phenomenon that is known today as Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

That young, dedicated student of Helio Gracies quickly grew to become an Assistant Instructor or “Monitor” in the Gracie Academy and is now a 9th Degree Red Belt Grand Master. He was prepared by Helio Gracie and Joao Alberto Barreto to instruct, familiarize, and educate many generations of Jiu Jitsu practitioners.
PRESENT
After 65 years in Jiu Jitsu, an entire lifetime for most, Grand Master Flavio Behring has seen first hand the expansion and colonization of Jiu Jitsu worldwide. He has been involved in the development of Jiu Jitsu not only in Brazil but a major contributor to the growth in many countries like France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Israel, Denmark and Romania. His contribution to the United States has been well documented with the rapid growth and the amazing work by the Professors of our team nationwide in Utah, California, Montana, New York and Arizona.

Flavio Behring Jiu-Jitsu is an international institution focused on the education, preparation, and character development of its students, its instructors, its professors and leaders. It is a result of Grand Master Flavio Behring’s longstanding dedication to the Martial Art of Jiu-Jitsu, and the constant effort to develop, innovate and simplify Jiu-Jitsu technique.
