Alex's passion for martial arts began in elementary school, where he was active in Taekwondo for many years. His grandfather was an avid boxer during the 1940s and 1950s, and he instilled in his family a love for combat sports. Some of Alex's best childhood memories include attending the matches of some of boxing's greats, including Roy Jones Jr. and Tuscaloosa's very own Deontay Wilder, with his father and uncles. As the sport of MMA took off in popularity, he began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing. After suffering a debilitating leg injury, Alex decided to casually continue martial arts as a way to stay in shape and keep up the mental toughness and fighting spirit instilled in him by his family. This combined with growing up in the City of Champions (Tuscaloosa) inspired him to open up the best kickboxing gym around.
