For Laird, Tai Chi began as two romances; one that involved a girl, and one that opened his heart to a new art and a new love. The story about the girl is, perhaps, for another time but the introduction to Tai Chi was just as lasting. Laird was captivated; driven to meet and study under his mentor, Master Sergio Arione, who would guide him in the art and mastery of Tai Chi and Qi Gong.
A teacher to the core, Laird quickly realized that he wanted to share this art and mentor others. Laird began teaching classes in 2001, was awarded Certified Instructor status in 2007 and Academy Instructor status in early 2014 by the International Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association. In the summer of 2016, Laird was granted the honour and rank of Gold Tiger by the Association. He also enjoys competition and has won several gold medals in both international and national Tai Chi Chuan tournaments.
After many years of practice in Qi Gong, in 2017 Laird was honoured to be accepted into the Chan family and became a disciple of Grand Master Chen Yong Fa the 5th generation keeper of Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu and Lohan Qi Gong.
Laird enjoys helping a wide range of students discover the many benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, including classes for adults, seniors, war veterans, and individuals with special or different needs as well as on-site Corporate Instruction.
The joy of sharing Qi Gong and Tai Chi is the inspiration for Laird. The real motivation behind Tai Chi Ottawa is seeing people improve the quality of their lives quickly and significantly through these beautiful arts.
